Creating extraordinary structures with natural materials.

Within these pages, you will find information about building with natural, earthen materials to create wonderful living and working spaces.

FOXFIRE is managed by David Brackhahn, who specializes in natural building techniques and materials.

He has been building beautiful, energy-efficient homes since 1976, using ancient earth-building arts such as adobe, cob, earthblock, and straw-bale construction, as well as passive solar applications and design.

David is very interested in helping people learn to utilize the sun’s abundant energy to increase the comfort and value of their homes.

David is passionate about building self-sustaining,

“off grid” earthen homes.

` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` ` `

He has the knowledge and skill to build your home either “off grid” or conventionally.  The project can be built from wood (log, or timber or stick framing), masonry, or any of the natural earthen bricks and earth plasters.

There are important issues to consider when using local materials and when building in the mountains or in remote locations.

He will guide you through the special concerns of

the local building process.

David built his first solar-heated home in 1976, and it has been saving energy ever since.  The families who have lived there over the past thirty years have enjoyed a kinder life (for themselves and for our environment) because of the planning, thought, and special care that went into the building of this home.

David welcomes the opportunity to

do the same for you.

greenhouse, sunroom, or photovoltaic system.
